Grant Writing for Scientists

How do you write a research grant proposal that convinces the European Commission to fund your project? Young research leaders explored this question during a workshop held as part of the Raising Managers Academy (RMA) series at the Institute on 23–24 October.
Workshop title: Grant Writing for Scientists.

Participants learned the key principles behind creating effective project proposals within the Horizon Europe programme.

The two-day training was led by Aneta Andrzejczyk, Head of the International Projects Department at the Medical University of Łódź. The expert supports researchers and research-oriented companies in building consortia, preparing proposals, and managing projects under programmes such as Horizon Europe, EIT Health, EU4Health, and Erasmus+.

The workshop had a highly practical character.

– We start by understanding the structure of Horizon Europe. We learn how to interpret call texts, analyse successful projects, and then develop our own consortium concepts, explained Aneta Andrzejczyk before the meeting.

Participants worked step by step on project preparation – from initial idea, through call analysis, to drafting a project proposal. The trainer emphasised that the key to success lies in the clarity and logical structure of the proposal.

There was also no shortage of motivation.

– Writing proposals is like training a project muscle. You have to keep practising, stay persistent, and build collaboration networks. The competition is growing, so our efforts must become increasingly coordinated, she stressed.

The next RMA module will take place in November. On 13–14 November 2025, Tomasz Jeliński will lead the workshop “Science behind Visual Presentations”.
