PhD student
Priman Alfred Fau did his bachelor’s degree at IPB University, majoring in Genetic Animal Science, and in his final year he worked on identifying SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) associated with fatty acid levels in indigenous sheep in Indonesia. Then his curiosity in molecular biology started to grow and he decided to continue his education in Biotechnology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland), which was possible thanks to NAWA (Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange). During his Master’s studies, Priman actively participated in professional opportunities outside the university. He did a full-time summer internship at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences for modelling Huntington’s disease using iPSC cells. He delivered a poster presentation at the 17th Berlin Summer Meeting-AI’s Adventure in Genomics at Max Delbruck Center. He also attended the Summer School of Eastern European Bioinformatics Genomic Schools in Suceava, Romania.
For the final project of his Master’s thesis, Priman investigated the epigenetic landscape changes during the development of the skin epidermis of mice and by using several tools for the analysis, which led him to have an interest in bioinformatics.
In the WELCOME2 group, Priman will work to unravel the effect of vitamin D on the epigenetic memory that regulates gene expression in the human immune system.
